Luis Figo surprises after filling candidate of FIFA Presidential Elections

Former Real Madrid superstar Luis Figo recently surprised everyone by putting forward his name as a candidate for the FIFA presidential elections.

The Portuguese superstar is well-known for his time at Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter Milan. However, he faces a huge fight in order to get on the position that gives ultimate authority over world football. Sepp Blatter has held this position for almost a decade and he looks unlikely to relinquish it anytime soon. Figo has received backing from his former teammate David Beckham, who says that the Portuguese has all the qualities to lead the world football organisation.

Some of the recent experience that Figo has had involved football is when being theUefa Football Committee member for the last four years.

The elections will be held on May and Figo is not the only player running against Blatter. The likes of Dutch FA president Michael van Praagand Jordan’s Prince Ali Bin Al Husseinwill be in contention as well. Beckham reckons that football and FIFA need someone who is passionate about the game. Blatter has been criticised in recent years for his inability to accommodate technology into the game despite it becoming prevalent in several other sports.

“I welcome the candidacy of my friend Luis for Fifa president. Any successful organisation needs to have good people who are passionate about the game and want to do the best for fans.Fifa will only benefit from having a wide range of strong candidates present their visions for the game and it’s good to see people volunteer.

I wish Luis and the other candidates well,” said Beckham.Figo said that he will try to focus on “better governance, more transparency, increased solidarity and the protection of true football values” if he is provided the opportunity to become the Fifa president.
