BECKHAM MAKES SHORTLIST

Former Manchester United, Real Madrid and AC Milan star David Beckham has been included in the professional 35 man squad for the Olympics that will take place in London within a month.

The former England star has expressed his desire to play at the Olympics better representing Team GB. The Team GB manager Stuart Pearce has been unwilling to give out any hints about his team selection, but he has given the major confidence to David Beckham that he will be selected for the competition by including him in the initial 35 man squad for the Olympics. The 35 man squad will then be reduced to 18 man on July 6.

Stuart Pearce can include a total of three overage players in the Olympic squad. In the provisional squad, the likes of Frank Lampard, Ryan Giggs, and David Beckham have all been included. The 37-year-old is regarded to be one of the greatest players for England over the years. He is currently the recordholder for the most number of appearances made for the international team. David Beckham has been one of the names constantly being mentioned as part of the preparations for the London Olympics. Hence, it is not a surprise to learn that he has been included in the initial 35 man squad.

Meanwhile, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has won his battle to not include Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in the Olympic squad. Jack Wilshere has not played for Arsenal for more than a year and it is thought that Arsene Wenger wanted more recuperating time for the 21-year-old starlet, who is regarded as a future England star.

Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is expected to be handed the starting role. The former Manchester City striker had a great season for Chelsea, although he tailed off during the end.
