Azpilicueta reveals how Frank Lampard wants Chelsea to play next season

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has said that the Blues are aiming to play with a high intensity and dominant games next season. The west London giants ended the previous campaign on a high with Europa League success and Azpilicueta is aiming to carry on the good traits for the new season where they will be managed by Frank Lampard.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: "I’m really looking forward to the new season," he told the club's official website. We’ve all had a good break, which was needed after a long season with the Europa League running until the end of May.It’s always a lot of hard work during pre-season but it’s the work you have to put in, to create a good base for our physical condition. We want to play with high intensity and we want to be dominant in games, the manager has explained how he wants us to play and we are all enjoying the camp so far."

The Blues’ style of play involved plenty of sideways passing under manager Maurizio Sarri last season and that has drawn criticism from a section of the supporters. As such, the Italian’s departure to Juventus did not affect much of the fan base and the faithful now have the fresh opportunity of watching club great Lampard managing the club.

Lampard only made his managerial debut with Derby County during the previous campaign but he has managed to build a reputation after guiding the team to the Championship play-off final. Aside from this, he found plenty of success with some of the young loanees with the Rams last term and the Blues’ board will be hoping that the 40-year-old can produce the same magic with them this season.

Chelsea are under a transfer ban for the next 12 months and that could offer the opportunity for Lampard to test some of the club’s young graduates through the different competitions. Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori could get some preference after excelling under Lampard’s management at Pride Park last season.
