Bent fancies Gareth Bale making the return to Tottenham
Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Darren Bent believes Gareth Bale has a good chance of heading to the Premier League with Spurs this summer. The Wales international has endured a torrid spell with Real Madrid in the past couple of seasons and his future remains uncertain with manager Zinedine Zidane returning to the helm.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Bent said that Bale should have do difficulty in returning to the Premier League with Spurs, considering the club are moving in the right direction after reaching the final of last season’s Champions League, he told: “I can see him coming back [to England] but where is the difficulty. You look at Spurs and he knows the club, they're going in the right direction, a new stadium, brilliant manager, young team. He'll go to where suits him best and he'll have a number of options. When you look at the teams in the Premier League, it comes down to Tottenham and Manchester United.”
Bale’s agent has regularly dismissed the speculation linking the Welshman with a Bernabeu exit but widespread reports claim that should be the case with the attacker not possessing the best of relationships with Zidane. Bale found himself in-and-out of the team during the backend of Zidane’s first managerial stint with the club and the same prevailed during the second half of the previous campaign after the Frenchman made a surprise comeback within months.
As such, it appears wise enough to secure a fresh club where he can redeem himself and it remains to be seen whether Spurs are in the running to sign him. Los Blancos are currently keen on landing Christian Eriksen from the north London side this summer and Spurs could potentially demand Bale as part of the move. Still, the Welshman’s wages are above their expectations and the attacker may need to take a significant pay-cut to seal the comeback.
