Ashley Young Believes Luke Shaw Can Transform Into One Of The World’s Best Left-Backs
Manchester United ace Ashley Young has spoken positively about the future of Luke Shaw, who has come up for criticism from manager Jose Mourinho of late. The 22-year-old failed to obey tactical instructions during the first-half of the FA Cup outing against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, and this did not please the manager, who highlighted his poor positioning on the field.
Since then, speculation has intensified over Luke Shaw’s future at the club, and they have been reports suggesting that he could move on from Old Trafford during the summer. Despite this, Young believes his compatriot has the potential to be one of the world’s best in his position, but he needs to keep his head down and work hard to achieve his goals. He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Obviously, he [Shaw] is a player that wants to do well I want to see him doing well. It’s like all players, you just have to get your head down and work. Yes, of course. He is a fantastic player. I feel he can be one of the best in the world. You’ve just got to work hard.”
Shaw’s future is currently hanging in the balance amid doubts whether he may get another chance with United before the end of the season. The Englishman’s hopes of making the World Cup squad have more or less faded, and it appears that he could be replaced during the summer with Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon being eyed as a probable successor.
The 17-year-old has been in glowing form for the Cottagers during the current campaign, and Mourinho sees him as the ideal player, who could become a regular at the club, once Young decides to end his association with United. Young was rewarded with a 12-month extension earlier this week following his impressive showing in a makeshift left-back position.
